The "About Me" Page on any biographical website is always fun for me to read. Does the author want to come across professional, personable, likable, knowledgeable, intelligent or do they just want you to keep reading? For myself, I wanted anyone coming across this site to know that the energy dedicated into creating and maintaining this blog was all derived from my passion for Digital Marketing; a passion that carries from my personal interests to my professional interests (and I consider myself quite fortunate to be able to live my passion in my profession).
I am a Senior Manager of Performance Marketing at the Canadian Yellow Pages Group. Our company is currently undergoing one of the most attention grabbing transformations in Canadian business history (in my humble opinion). Everyday I receive the challenge of fighting a large public perception that a company primarily based on a 100 year old Print Publication couldn't possibly offer Canadian businesses a modern day solution. One thing to know "About Me" is that I'm a competitor and I love to compete against perceptions. With more digital products than any other company in Canada and an online network spanning dozens of influential websites, we are positioned to grow our already impressive Digital Thumbprint into an online powerhouse. Everyday I get to tell this story.
My love for Marketing began on my first day of Marketing 201 in the Haskayne School of Business at the University of Calgary. As I entered my third year of my undergraduate degree an undeclared major, I quickly realized 30 minutes into my first class that Marketing was where I belonged. Using creative strategies, innovative ideas and pushing the boundaries of what had been done before ignited a flame inside me which has only grown to a forest fire. I love consulting with clients, figuring out how I can be an asset and providing a solution that makes them money. I especially love this when I can accomplish that with out of the box thinking.
Digital Marketing has inspired me to challenge traditional thinking. It allows marketers to push beyond the norm and create a whole new form of customer connections. In a world where consumer loyalty is on the endangered species list, Digital Marketing allows businesses to engage users in a way that's never been done. With the advancement of technology, watching this trend "hatch" into what it will become is incredibly exhilarating.
The world is changing. I'm excited.
